Abstract

This dissertation aims at investigating the role of role play in assisting Malay student to learn Arabic Language. The respondents of this study comprise the form four student of SMKA KL. This study focuses on the role play activity during the teaching and learning session of Arabic Language as well as the student communication skill. The objective of this study is to identify the student perception toward role play activity in learning Arabic in order to enhance the Arabic proficiency among them in four aspects namely, vocabulary, phonetics, sentence structure and communication strategies. Morever, this study also examines the level of involvement among the student, their problems is speaking Arabic and the suggesting ways to overcome them. The collected data which are qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by using SPSS (Social Sciences Statistical Procedure) version 11.5 were obtained through survey, observation and recorded role play of the students. The results indicates that the students mostly 97% agreed on the appropriatenen of role play in learning Arabic Language. In addition, the students involvement in role play activity was good. In spite of that, they still face the problems psychologically as well as externally in terms of vocabulary, pronunciation, grammer, and communication strategies. Fastly, the results also highlight the main problems of the students in speaking Arabic Language are vocabulary, sentence structure, phonetics and communication strategies.
