Abstract

This study attempts to evaluate two main aspects of the Arabic Language – its syntax and its morphology – as they are commonly practiced by preachers or religious workers. It has been found that errors have been continuously made by religious workers. Observations made by the researcher have proven that errors can be found in religious talks, lectures, supplications of prayers, sermons, books, brochures etc. The study conducted began with the distribution of questionnaires to the religious workers in the District of Central Perak. Its purpose was to generally gauge the mastery level of the Arabic Language, focusing specifically on the aspect of syntax and morphology. A thorough observation was then made on errors related to syntax and morphology in the delivery of friday sermons at the mosques in the District of Central Perak. In addition, interview sessions were also held to gain additional information to support the data obtained through questionnaires and observations. The result of the study has portrayed a clear picture of the weaknesses among the religious workers in using Arabic Language, especially it syntax and its morphology. It is hoped that some measures have to be taken by the relevant authorities to avoid the religious workers from committing such errors in the implementation of their duties.
