Abstract

The objective of the study emphasize against the contribution by Sheikh Abdullah Basmeih in the field of interpretation with the focus to the translation Tafsir Pimpinan al-Rahman on the understanding of Al-Quran. Discussion which covers the development of translation since the era of Rasulullah s.a.w. to the present day including the interpretation in Malaysia, then starting the background of the life of Sheikh Abdullah Basmeih. Furthermore to analyse the contents of the Tafsir Pimpinan al-Rahman which is the biggest contribution to the development with regard to interpre1ation in Malaysia, the approach of this research is historical and the ability which resulted in explanation and comparison. This involved in the method of collecting data comprising of research in the library and study the scope comprising document, his1ory interviews and observations which arc the analysis or data.

This study consisting of five capters (Capter I); Consisting of experience into the research which explains the meaning of the subject aiming at methodology of education hypothesis and scope study. (Capter II); Explanation of the tafsir which covers definition and position of tafsir with development since Rasulullah s.a.w. till today together with the life of the expense in Malaysia. (Capter III); The life history of Sheikh Abdullah Basmeih comprising of his ancestors and educational background and his active in writing as a well known writer and translation in details with his contributions especially in the field of interpretation. (Capter IV); A special study against the Tafsir Pimpinan al-Rahman to the understanding of Al- Quran which is his biggest contribution. (Capter V); Summary and proposals. Based on the research done by him. the writer concluded in so many factors that Sheikh Abdullah Basmeih is an exemplary person who has contributed to the development of tafsir in Malaysia. Where there is lack of such ulama. A study is also made and discovered the Tafsir Pimpinan al-Rahman has been very encouraging amongst the people especially those who are studying the contents of AI-Quran. Among the biggest factor is that the language used is easily understood by all grades of people.
