Abstract

This study aims to look at trends and evaluate the Malay Literature subject (922) Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia(STPM) from the years 1992-1997. This evaluation is made based on reports from Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia(MPM), feedback and results from questionnaires given to teachers and students, opinions of lecturers, candidates' performance reports, analysis of the Malay Literature syllabus (922) and Malay Literature examination results released by MPM. A statistical analysis of candidates' performance from the years 1992-1997 on this subject is presented together with a summary of the findings for the same period. The reports released by MPM are evaluated together with the papers offered. The reports also enhanced an evaluation of candidates' response to each question. The strengths and weaknesses of candidates' responses are categorised in a summary. Reasons for these responses by candidates are discussed and studied. In addition, a summary of findings on the status of Malay Literature from the years 1992-1997 are forwarded together with suggestions and feedback from teachers and students. Suggested remedial measures and recommendations from experts on Malay Literature(922) STPM are included encompassing their vision towards the future of this subject.
