Abstract
The main objective of this research is to study the collision of different cultures, especially early period of the spreading of spread Buddhism into China, especially through documen Mouzi's Treatise on Dispelling Doubts (牟子理惑论). The emergence of Buddhism in India was triggered by dissatisfaction of Brahma in India. When Buddhism spread to China, it transformed to adapt the Chinese environment and culture. A lot of concepts that deemed were “common understanding” in India but were unfamiliar for Chinese. So, explanation was needed. For instance, the concept of “rebirth” which was not exist in Chinese culture. So that, the interpretation of Buddhism had modulated to adapt the existing culture and thought in China, and these was reflected in the text of Mouzi. The Mouzi's Treatise on Dispelling Doubts reflects three characteristics: Firstly, as a new religion in China, Buddhism adopted on open strategy to accommodate Chinese environment in order to spread its influences. Secondly, Buddhism had to integrate into the mainstream of Chinese studies to ensure its sustainable development in China. Thirdly, insisted on core value and independency of Buddhism in China.
