Abstract
This study discusses the approaches and attractions of Ismail Lutfi Japakiya’s da‘wah in Southern Thailand. The purpose of this research is to know the reality of the Muslim comunity in Southern Thailand, approaches of Ismail Lutfi Japakiya’s da‘wah and also the factor of attraction in his da‘wah. The methods used in this research are library and field. Sets of questionnaire, interviews and observation were conducted to further meet the needs of the research methods. As many as 258 sets of questionnaire were distributed to the people in Southern Thailand. Those who involved in the questionnaire were from Majlis al-‘Ilm Fatani , Majlis al-‘Ilm Yala Islamic University and students from Yala Islamic University. The approaches of da‘wah that have been implemented by Ismail Lutfi Japakiya are da‘wah towards the comunity leaders, da‘wah bi al-hal, speech, writing, education and media of electronic. From the approaches of da‘wah, educational approach can be seen more closely and comprehensively to the whole society when compare with other approaches. In addition, the educational approach has been a huge benifit to the Muslim comunity Southern Thailand. Base on this study, the attraction factors of Ismail Lutfi Japakiya’s da‘wah can be seen from three factors; 1) Personality, it is found that the main attractions are through his lectures, academic qualification, general behaviour, knowledge, ingenuity and voice; 2) Contents of presentation, it is found that the main attraction is tafsir al-Quran; 3) Method of presentation, the main attractions are the encouragment of doing good deeds and remembering the gifts and all the provisions from Allah SWT. This research hopes to enhance qualities of attraction mainly for preachers in Southern Thailand in order to attract and to influence their object of da‘wah.
