Abstract

This research is a comparative study on the marital concept between the religions of Islam and Christianity focuses on Roman Catholic. Several aspects in the marital concept of both religions have been studied and instruments have been designed to determine the difference between the two religions. The formation of Islamic society and Roman Catholic society is derived from the formation of marital institution. Hence, this study discusses the main principals of marriage from the process of choosing a partner until the final process of marriage. In addition, this study also analyzed the process of resolving marriage in Islam and Roman Catholic. In general this study employed several methods of data collection such as library inquiries, observation, documentation and the historical studies while as data analysis have utilized inductive, deductive and comparative methods. Basically, this study reveals that there are several similarities in the concept of marriage between Islam and Roman Catholic. Nevertheless, it needs to be studied holistically.  However in detail, the difference is utterly conspicuous in the area of marital motives or the objective of a marriage, the importance of marriage and the reality of domestic institution. This suits the assertion of Islamic and Christianity Roman Catholic’s philosophy.
