Abstract

It is worrying to see how much influence has been brought upon teenagers by foreign cultures, especially when it involves Muslim teenagers. This issue is addressed in concern towards the increasing number of crimes and bad behaviour by students year by year. This research aims to examine the influence of the culture of hedonism among students, the cultural forms they follow as well as the steps that must be taken in order to decrease the problem. A total of 211 students were randomly chosen as the respondents, ranging from those from Form 1, Form 2 and Form 4. In order to obtain data, the researcher used questionnaires, analysis, interviews and documentation. From the research, it was revealed that most forms of the hedonistic culture adopted by teenagers resulted from their curiosity in finding a way to get entertainment. They are led on by their careless actions and behaviour such as favouring entertainment, loitering, and smoking, playing video games and performing sexual misconducts. Therefore, one of the recommendations that have been made in order to overcome these problems is for parents, schools, the community, the government and especially students themselves to increase and diversify spiritual activities that are based on Islamic principles.
