Abstract
This research focuses on the approaches and strategies to be taken by any translator in the search for the closest natural equivalence for any given noun. However the approaches and strategies are only a suggestion based on the writer's extracted samplings from the two Japanese novels, namely Hatsukoi by Tatsuya Yoshimura and Hyaku lkkai Me no Puropousu by Shinji Yojima. In the writer's opinion, this research on translation equivalence is important as accuracy in any translation will fall greatly on the mastery and intelligence of a translator in finding the closest equivalence. We can no longer think that the translation process is a matter of substituting a word from the source language to the target language. The translation process involves the transfer of message from the source language to the target language. Therefore when one translates, one has to make sure that the word one has chosen can carry the same message as per the original text whilst ensuring that it is relative to the nature of the target language.
