Abstract

In 1967, Pondok Bukit Gua had been transferred into Islamic private school. It meant that the system of learning of Arabic language was also changed from traditional system into modem system. Traditional system was emphasized on grammar, Nahu and Saraf while modem system was focused on skills including listening, speaking, reading and writing. To conduct this study, the following questions need to be inquired into properly: 1. What kind of system of teaching Arabic practiced by Pondok Darul Huda? 2. Can this pondok produce students who are skillful in using Arabic language? 3. What kind of Arabic subjects are taught? 4. What kind of methodology does the Pondok Darul Huda use in it teaching of Arabic language? 5. What was the consequence of the current system of teaching of Arabic language? All the above questions had encouraged the researcher to conduct this study. In order to answer the above questions, various methods were applied and finding s showed as follow: 1. Arabic subjects taught in Darul Huda had been modified in order to produce students who were skillful in using Arabic language. However, Traditional method of teaching had been applied for teaching Arabic. Method of translation and method of explanation were usually used in teaching of Arabic. 2. Curriculum implemented was copied from Arab countries. Teachers were familiar with using of Malay language in teaching Arabic. Few activities were practiced to support of learning Arabic. Lack of Arabic texts. Lack of teacher's reinforcement. All these factors were caused of low cumulative grade point average of students in learning Arabic. To overcome the above obstacles, participation from various pans, such as school principal, Arabic teacher and student were vary needed.
