Abstract
This study aims to look at and identify the role of the principal as a instructional and administration leader through a few behavioural domain based on teachers' perceptions. This study also aims to see whether there are differences in the perceptions of teachers towards the role of principal as the instructional and administration leader based on a few independent variants. The PIMRS and ABQ questionaires which have been altered comprising 65 items based on the four-point rate scale were used in this study. 70 teachers in one secondary school in the district of Kota Setar were used as the research's respondents. There were eleven hypothesis constructed in order to find the answers to the research questions based on the specified variants. Descriptive and inferential statistics involved the T-Test, Chi Square and Pearson's correlation were used to analyse data. The findings of this study show that the principal has carried out the role as the instructional and administration leader actively. The most active behavioral domain of the principal as the instructional leader create a conclusive school climate as managing files, documents and school facilities, dividing and arranging teachers duties are very active behaviours carried out by the principal as the administration leader. This study also find out that there were no differences in the perceptions of teachers of gender, academic qualifications and the period of knowing the principal towards the role of the principal as the instructional leader. However, the perceptions of teachers of different ages, and year of service show a significant difference. The findings of this study also show that there is no differences in the perceptions of teachers towards the role of the principal aa die administration based on age, years of service, academic qualification and the period of knowing the principal. The finding also show that there is a significant relationship between the role of the principal as the instructional and administration leader. Based on these findings, the researcher has recommended a few suggestions and views to further improve the quality of instructional and administrative leadership among secondary school principals so that the school effectiveness could be improved.
