Abstract

This dissertation is about Muhammad al-Ghazali's (1917-1996) thoughts in his book Kayfa Nata'amal Ma'a al-Qur'an. This book tells about the ways how to interact with al-Qur'an correctly, the causes of ummah's backwardness and the ways how to overcome the thought crisis of the ummah today. The writer was attracted by al-Ghazali's thought stating that al-Qur'an is the most important factor in building the Islamic community nowadays. Although al-Qur'an was revealed since 14 centuries ago, but its contents are still relevant and very practical. This means that al-Qur'an is always relevant from time to time according to the interaction of ummah with it. This study also discusses about Muhammad Al-Ghazali views on al-Qur'an as an injection to the ummah's development. He stated some advantage and disadvantages factors that need to be considered by Islamic ummah in facing the new millennium. He emphasized that Islamic ummah need to interact with Al-Qur'an correctly and avoid any form of fanaticism, heresy, untrue belief and falsification in the Islamic ummah. This is the condition required for tile survival of the ummah. And, al-Ghazali's stand of view in hadith ahad aspect relating to salaf and khalaf is also discussed.
