Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the anxiety level and the sources of anxiety among secondary school students in Kuala Lumpur. The selected school for the study was Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Batu 5. Jalan lpoh Kuala Lumpur, 51200 Kuala Lumpur. 160 students has been selected for the study of which 94 were Malay students and 66 were non Malay (Chinese, Indians, etc). The sample were chosen using stratified random sampling. Questionnaires were used to collect the data and analysis of the data were conducted using the SPSS-pc programme. T-test and one-way ANOVA were used to test the hypothesis. Results of the study shows that the anxiety level is moderate. The major sources of anxiety were identified from the factors of Suitability of School Work followed by Lessons and Career and Social Psychological Relationship. Result of the study also shows that the level of anxiety has a significant difference between Malay and the Non-Malay students. Malay students were having more anxieties as compared to non--Malay. There were also significant difference between male and female students. Female student were having more anxieties as compared to the male student.
