Abstract
Pertaining to the inquest system, there will be many questions raised which reflect weaknesses surrounding our system. With this awareness, the writer decided to undertake this study to examine the inquest system especially focusing on the law correlating to the investigation of the death. This study will also focus on the death in police custody as to ascertain the method of investigation practiced by various departments such as the Police Department, Ministry of Health and the Judicial Department. The methods used are observatory and interviews as well as analysis of the decisions of the High Court or Court of Appeal in relation to revision cases as a guide for the writer to understand decisions taken by the courts especially pertaining to inquest proceedings. At the end of this study, the writer will also discuss the weaknesses in our inquest system as well as suggestions and views, together with positive changes required towards improving the inquest system in this country.
