Abstract

Direct Participation is also known as participative management, co-determination and employee involvement. ln this research, Direct Participation will be known as DP. Direct participation is a management concept that is gaining popularity in Europe. This concept requires management and workers to work together. Management should not direct but should integrate contributions from both parties to ensure the development of the organization. This research focuses on the effectiveness of DP in Syarikat X Bhd. . SyarikaJ X Bhd. is the company where the research was being done. In addition, this research will also evaluate the suitability of the implementation and the practice of DP in this company. Data and information in this research are gathered through participant observation, interviews, secondary sources and survey. It is found that DP is an effective mangement method. DP has motivated workers in this company to be more productive. Through this management method, workers would be able to participate in management and development of the company. This has enabled them to achieve job satisfaction and self-actualization. DP is also a suitable management method to be applied in a company such as Syarikat X Bhd. This is because of the suitability and similarities between DP management concept with some element of eastern culture. Sharing, mutual-respect and helping each other has always been practiced in eastern culture. As Syarikat X Bhd is in Malaysia, its workers practiced eastern culture. Thus, DP is suitable.
