Abstract

This survey is carried out to analyse the role of main newspapers in conveying the message of the government concerning Vision 2020. The survey forcussed an news coverage, especially reports, articles and editorial regarding Vision 2020 through the content analysis method. The survey is limited to 2 years, starting from February 28, 1991 until February 1993, when the focus of main papers shifted to the issue of constitution amendments regarding the sovereignity of Malay Rulers. As the Vision 2020 has been widely accepted as the National Agenda by people from all walks of life, it is felt thai the survey concerning the matter should be carried out. The papers which were selected are Berita Harian, Utusan Malaysia, New Straits Times, The Star, Nanyang Siang Pau, Sin Chew Jit Poh and Tamil Nesan, which represents the Malay, English, Chinese and Tamil papers respectively. The seven main papers were chosen so that an overall comparison and observation can be produced to bring in the desired results.
