Abstract

Malay civilization was created by a group of Malay peoples in the region of Southeast Asia, which was also known as Malay-Indonesian Archipelago, Malay world and so forth. One of that was the Malay Peninsular which had gone trough great achievement in this area during the period of Malacca Sultanate in the fifteenth century. The arrival of western powers such as Portuguese, Dutch. British and Japanese in this region. (The Malay world) caused a great upheaval on the Sultanate. In view of this, the dissertation is an effort to discuss the effect of colonialism in Malaysia in the aspects of politic, economy , and culture. In this dissertation, the researcher also intended to explore and analyse the problems and issues pertaining to the theory and civilization. This dissertation is divided int,o six chapters. Chapter one, deals with the concept of the Malay civilization; its definition and establishment prior to the period of colonialism. Chapter two discusses the internal factors that contributed to the coming of the European powers into the Malay world. Chapter three analyses the effect of the British colonialism in Malaysia, particularly in politics. Chapter four, deals with the Malaysian economy before and after British colonialism. The British also introduced capitalism in Malaysia which persisted to the present days. Chapter five describes the socio-culture changes in Malaysia, especially in the field of education, the emergence of new towns, popular culture and feminism movement. Chapter six concludes the discussion.
