Abstract

The discussion in this thesis covers one major aspect of Abu Yusuf Ya'kub Ibn lshaq lbn Imran Ibn Ism"ail Ash'-ath Ibn Kaisy al-Kindi, namely, Conception of Man It embodies the title "Conception of Man according to Al-Kindi's Thought" . The discussion is divided into five chapters or sub-areas. In chapter one, the writer discusses the Introduction, problems, field of study, objectives, methodology, importance of Research and study of other references. In chapter two, the writer discusses a brief history of al-Kindi, his life, education, his works and its significance. Also, the writer provides a brief discussion on "Thought" and its importance, sources and methodology according to the ideas Al-Kindi. In chapter three, the writer discusses the nature of the human being according to al-Kindi, here the writer emphasises on the "Human Being", his characteristics, human faculties and ethics. In Chapter four, the writer discusses the opinion of al-Kindi towards the elements of Human Being. The discussion focuses on three things, Ruh/Nafs, Intellect ('Aqal) and body (Jasad ). Here, the writer also makes an attempt to discuss the idea of philosophers towards elements of Human Being. In Chapter five, Conception of Man according to Al-Kindi's Thought focuses on Human Being as Khalifah, slave of Allah human being as a social and political entity. A special attention in this chapter is given to the aspects of "Conception of Man according to al-Kindi's thought". Data regarding the Conception of Man had been collected from books. All these pertinent data and books are accordingly provided. The thesis ends with a discussion on the findings of the study. Some recommendations, bibliography and index are also recorded.
