Abstract
Although written selection policies for librares are not universal, the process of selection in academic libraries is now far more likely to be based on written policies then it was before. The selection process should accomplish the objective of assuring that the materials are appropriate to the needs of the institution. The ideal situation involves both librarians and academic staff. The article describes the selection policy used by the Institute of Advanced Studies Library, University of Malaya.
