Abstract

The rapid development of mobile technology resulted in the advent of mobile commerce, which is the disruption to the cash-dominated small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This paper details the investigation into the readiness and factors affecting mobile payment systems' implementation by SMEs in Malaysia using the technology-organisation-environment (TOE) framework. The results indicated that all TOE framework dimensions are significant for SMEs implementing mobile payment systems in Malaysia. In the case of the critical determinants, security concerns, relative advantages, and top management support are the top factors impacting SMEs when deciding to implement mobile payment systems.
