Abstract

Recently, there have been advancements in the field of metal complexes due to their vast utilisation in luminescence. Compared to other lower and higher transition metal complexes, there have been few studies on Zn(II) and Ir(III) azomethine complexes and their applications. However, complexes of both these metal ions manifest more potent properties and utilities than other metal ions. An overview of the recent developments in Zn(II) and Ir(III) azomethine complexes is presented, along with their applications such as luminescence. The correlation between structure, function and properties of Zn(II) and Ir(III) complexes and the prime factors that affect luminescence activities are discussed. Compared to the meticulous development of Zn((II) and Ir(III) mononuclear complexes, its dinuclear counterparts have been less researched. Finally, prospects for future studies are recommended, such as an investigation into dinuclear Zn(II) and Ir(III) azomethine metal complexes. © 2022 Malaysian Institute of Chemistry.
