Abstract

We study the effect of thickness ratio on the ferroelectric polarization and hysteresis behaviors of BaTiO3/SrTiO3 superlattices using Landau-Ginzburg-Devonshire theory by considering the electrostatic coupling and interface intermixing. Interface intermixing gives rise to inhomogeneous internal electric field and polarization in superlattices. The hysteresis loops of polarization and internal electric field as a function of the applied electric field are investigated by varying the thickness ratio of the superlattices. The hysteresis loops for each individual layer are calculated. The effects of thickness ratio on remnant polarization, remnant internal electric field and coercive field are examined.
