Abstract

In the present study, Hydroxyapatite (HAp) (derived from blood clam shell), Zn, and Ag-doped Hydroxyapatite (Zn: HAp and Ag: HAp) (Cardiospermum halicacabum leaf extract assisted) were synthesized. The different morphologies such as homogeneous high-density particles with spherical shapes, clusters of rods, and a few needle-like and distinct rod-like are observed. FTIR and XPS analyses confirmed the presence of functional groups and the chemical state of the products. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed that all synthesized compounds possessed the hexagonal crystal structure. HAp exhibited a high percentage of reflectance, and doped samples exhibit low bandgap energies. The prepared compounds showed excellent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Moreover, the photocatalytic activities of all compounds against Rhodamine B (RhB) and Methylene blue (MB) dyes under UV light illumination were investigated. The study found Ag: HAp to be an effective photocatalyst for degradation of above-mentioned dyes in wastewater.
