Abstract
We have successfully demonstrated Q-switching within the confines of an erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) cavity. This innovative approach leveraged copper phthalocyanines (CuPc) as a saturable absorber (SA), with the SA film made via the embedding method utilizing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The Q-switched EDFL achieved a minimum pulse width of 3.95 µs, a maximum pulse rate of 77.2 kHz and a maximum pulse energy of 49.2 nJ as it operated under a maximum pump power of 102.8 mW. Notably, this pioneering work marks the first instance of employing a CuPc PVA-based SA to produce a Q-switched laser within the 1.55 µm region. Our findings offer exciting prospects for advancements in Q-switched fiber laser technology. © 2023 Elsevier GmbH
