Abstract

Two new binuclear Co(II) azomethine complexes were synthesized from diaminodiphenylsulphide bridged ligands bearing NO2 and Cl substituents. Structural interpretation was carried out through el-emental analysis (CHNS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), fourier transform infra-red (FTIR), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), energy dispersive X-ray diffraction (EDX), UV-Visible and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The ligands involve dinitrogen and dioxygen donor atom system as observed in the FTIR and NMR spectra, forming binuclear CoHLa and CoHLb complexes upon coordination. The powder X-ray diffraction analysis specified the occurrence of crystalline phase in CoHLb while amorphous in CoHLa. Both the Co(II) complexes displayed dual emissions in the visible and near infra-red region. These are the first and prime examples of the dual emissive binuclear Co(II) complexes that display solid state photo-luminescence with a Stoke's Shift (A lambda) values of 307 and 308 nm, revealing thermal stability exceeding 300 degrees C. These properties worth's the complexes as favorable luminescent materials in solid state.(c) 2022 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
