Abstract

The effects of a lasing wavelength and probe signal on each other in a gain-clamped Er3+-doped fiber amplifier system are presented. The signal gain was found to be dependent on the lasing wavelength. This was not the case for the noise figure where the lasing wavelength did not have any significant effect on noise performance. The laser power and excess pump power were constant at low input signal levels; however, they started to reduce at high input signal powers.
