Abstract
An erbium-doped fiber ring laser is modeled using the propagation and rate equations of a homogeneous, two-level medium. The numerical simulations provide interesting information on the spectral behavior, as well as important parameters for cavity analysis and design. The process of lasing mode selection is clearly depicted and explained.
