Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to explore the history of Madrasah Idrisiah Kuala Kangsar Perak and its contribution towards Islamic Education from 1985 to1999. The three main research questions are; 1) how does Madrasah Idrisiah developed historically?; 2) what are the type of courses and teachings implemented in Madrasah Idrisiah before and after Malaysia independence?; and 3) who are the mastermind in redeveloping the Madrasah and what are his contibutions in developing the Islamic education in Madrasah Idrisiah from 1985 to 1999. Data in this dessertation is collected from library research and documentation method. Interviews were also done specifically on identifying the history of Madrasah Idrisiah and the mastermind’s contibution towards Islamic Education. The findings in summarised as: 1) Madrasah Idrisiah has officially being developed in 1922 and experiencing four levels of development evolution which is early years of development awakening stage (1917- 1922), excellence stage (1928-1969), declining stage (1970–1984), and rehabilitation stage (1985-1999). 2) It is identified that before the Malaysia independence, Madrasah Idrisiah was concentrating more on Islamic courses and after the independence, it practises the curriculum system similar to what is being taught is Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (Secondary Religous School) or the Ministry of Education, Malaysia. The man behind this is Ustaz Musa bin Zainuddin (1985- 1999) whom is known as the Islamic education innovator for Madrasah Idrisiah. In conclusion, there was a dramatic change in Islamic Education at Madrasah Idrisiah, specifically and in Perak, generally from 1985 to 1999.
