Abstract

Studies of Aqidah is one of the important field of studies in Indonesia‟s educational system whether in a formal or informal education, for example in the traditional private school. The studies of aqidah in Indonesia started in the traditional private school and later developed and taught in the primary and secondary schools and tertiary institutions. This research is therefore to analyse the curriculum of aqidah in several secondary schools in Jambi, Indonesia that is Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri (SMAN) Kabupaten Kerinci, Jambi, Sumatera Indonesia. The selection of the curriculum based on the Standard Competency Curriculum Studies of SMAN Kabupaten Kerinci, Jambi, Sumatera Indonesia 2004. The purpose of this research is to examine how far does the syllabus of Aqidah being used in these schools, the method of teaching and types of teaching aid tools used in the implementation of teaching and learning of aqidah at SMAN Kabupaten Kerinci. The number of respondents involved in the research was around 500 students from level X, XI and XII and 24 teachers. The researcher used quantitative and qualitative methods through questionnaires and interviews. The outcome of the research shows that the curriculum used by SMAN is appropriate and compatible to the students‟ level of understanding. This can be summarized through the learning approach commonly introduced in the study by focusing on the explanation of the Principles of Belief. In addition to that the research also showed a significant description between the achievement in examination result and the implementation of teaching and learning of aqidah at SMAN Kabupaten Kerinci in several aspects such as motivation, inclination, interest and morals of the students. Besides that school factor such as the administration, teachers and staffs, methods used, sources of reference and time and class allocation also contributed to impacts of the implementation of teaching and learning of aqidah at SMAN.
