Abstract

The objective of this research is to identify the level of emotional disturbance and the level of the students' involvement in delinquency. The focus of this research is to identify the dominant factors influencing the students' emotion and their involvement in delinquency. This research further looks into the relationship between the level of emotional disturbance and the students' involvement in delinquency and to observe the prominent sources of emotional disturbance which contribute toward a student's involvement in delinquency. The sample of this research is taken from 300 form four students from four secondary schools in Sentul Zone, Kuala Lumpur. The students were selected using stratified random sampling. This research used questionnaires whereas the processing of data used programmes such as SPSS-pc. T-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and multiple regression. The results of this research shows that the students emotional level is at a disturbed level whereas the level of the students involvement in delinquency is low. There is a significant difference between the level of emotional disturbance between gender, ethnic, place of living (hostel and non-hostel) and parents' income. The results of the research shows a significant and positive correlation between the causes of emotional disturbance with their behavioral in delinquency. Academic and school factors and parents' income forms the most important contribution towards delinquency.
