Abstract

Japan has achieved a high civilization comparable with the western civilization especially in terms of international, economic and political management. Therefore, the focus of this knowledge training is to study about how the bushido spirit plays its role as an element to form the characteristics of the Japanese people to the extend that they reach a high psychological level and good moral values which brings a unique aspect in Japanese civilization. The concept of bushido spirit consists of giving priorities to the moral and ethical values among the disciples such as loyalties to the leader, willing to sacrifice for honor, strong and courageous, generous and cultured, sincere, hardworking etc. In other words, the fore mentioned uniqueness is how the Japanese people practice the bushido spirit, which was inherited traditionally from the warriors who lived centuries ago. These practices were given a new lease of life, which inspired the Japanese in general. Based on this spirit, the Japanese has succeeded in forming an advanced country in numerous field such as in industry, trade a high achievement in modern technology, having a courageous and disciplined soldiers and charismatic group of leader who are able to support the administrative system of the country. The period of this study covers the Meiji reformation era till now which is also known as the contemporary era. Meiji reformation era is an important period to observe how the application of the bushido spirit begins and its impact to the modernization of Japan. This proved that the bushido spirit plays important role by contributing towards the formation of the Japanese civilization.
