Abstract
This dissertation, which is entitled 'Usage of "Al-Damair" in Composition Writing An Analytical Study of Incorrect Use of "damir" in Compositions Written by Form IV Malay Students', is a partial fulfillment for Master of Arts, Faculty of modern Languages and Linguistics, The University of Malaya. This thesis has several objectives. The first is to highlight the importance of the proper and precise use of damir in the Arabic Language. The second objectives is to ascertain the level of performance and understanding in the use of damir by Malay students from religious schools. The third is to identify the causes of students' inability to use damir correctly as well as to find possible solutions to overcome this problem. The final objective is to determine the emphasis placed by teachers on the use of damir in the classroom. The rationale for this research is based on the incorrect use of damir in composition writing. As an Arabic Language teacher, the writer had been faced with students' inability to use damir correctly in their compositions. This was found to be a common problem among Malay students. Hence, it was felt that a study should be undertaken to investigate these problems. The data used in this thesis has been collected from students' compositions and questionnaires to students and teachers. Apart from this, the writer had also gathered the necessary information through library research. From the findings of this research, it can be concluded that the correct use of damir is of utmost importance in ensuring the quality of a composition or any other writing.
