Abstract

ln the past quarter century. science process skills have become major emphases of science curriculum development. The development of science process skills in students is considered to be a major goal of education. The integrated science process skills, which comprised skills of formulating hypotheses, operationally defining, controlling variables, designing experiments and interpreting data are required in the process of problem solving in science. These cognitive skills can be mastered if the learning activities are appropriately matched to the level of the cognitive development of the learner. Valid science curriculum and special instructional strategies are needed to enhanced the extent of student acquisition and mastery of integrated science process skills. The aim of this study is to ascertain student mastery of integrated science process skills among pre-university student in relation to their cognitive styles. The sample consisted of 60 students. which comprised 17 males and 43 females. Two instruments were used in this study, the Test of Integrated Science Process Skills (TISPS IIXTan.1993) was used to measure students performance of integrated science process skills while the Group Embedded Figures Test (GEIT) was used to determined their cognitive styles.
