Abstract
A research was carried out to study the activities of Jiao Zong in the field of education, politics and cultural over a span of 45 years ( 1951-1996) in Malaysia. The research studied on the role played by Jiao Zong in each respective fields and also on the influence and contributions towards the Chinese community and nation. Chapter one gave a brief introduction on the history of Chinese education in Malaysia, the estabilshment of the association and of Jiao Zong's activities. This chapter concluded with a review on the motives, scopes, problems and its solutions. Chapter two discussed on how Jiao Zong fought and claimed the right for education in the Chinese language through the objection of the monolingual education acts and reports, making Chinese as the official language and sustained the Chinese education with Malaya/ Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA). Chapter three explained how Jiao Zong defended and maintained a complete system in Chinese education. This complete system involved the usage of Chinese language as the main medium of instruction in national primary Chinese school, private secondary Chinese school and university. Chapter four focused on the involvement and struggle of Jiao Zong in the field of politics and cultural. Jiao Zong's contributions were also discussed in this chapter. Chapter five analysized the fulfillment of Jiao Zong's role in establishing the association, position and contribution in the history of Chinese education. The relationship between Jiao Zong and Dong Zong was also discussed here. Chapter six, the conclusion chapter. It is found that besides safeguard and struggle in the development of Chinese education, Jiao Zong did not play the actual role in other activities as stated in its constitution. Nevertheless, till now Chinese education in Malaysia has been preserved towards the struggle of Jiao Zong. Therefore Jiao Zong's contributions can't be overlooked and must be appreciated.
