Abstract

Eversence its establishment in 1969, the Counselling and Career Guidance Unit at Student Affair Division ITM Shah Alam has witnessed the development of the vocational and counselling services in ITM Shah Alam. Numerous services which were the important elements in vocational guidance and counselling had been implemented. However, it is still questionable whether the elements of dakwah were embedded in all the services carried out? These questions had urged the writer to find the answers. With reference to this, the main problems being studied in this dissertation are: With reference to its counselling services in ITM, what are the contributions of and the positive out comes of those services? ii. What are previous and the current services done by this unit and the positive out comes of these services? iii. Are the elements of dakwah embedded in the services done by the Counselling and Career Guidance Unit. In order to answer the above problems, the writer conducted a research using several models. This includes methode sampling, collecting data, interview and analysing data. From the study, the writer found that: Counselling and Career Guidance Unit ITM Shah Alam did contribute towards dakwah Islamiyyah for the students as well as the staffs. ii. The counselling services done by Counselling and Career Unit were effective on the students, the staff and the public as well. The positive effects were that it helped produce good mannered, well disciplined and confident students. The students were also found to be complement in the academic and non academic areas. iii. Students' responses toward the counselling services were very encouraging. This was due to the fact that the counsellors are able to tackle the students' problems satisfactorily. Hence, the students have confidence to consult the counselling and Career Unit as the alternative to solve their problems. iv. Although students' responses towards counselling services in satisfactory, the efforts of dakwah towards students should be emphasised to gain the target groups' interests, the dakwah in counselling methods should emphasize more on the attractive ways the problem solving. That is the approach suggested in the al-Qur'an. Beside that, counselling done wisely, the good advice given and the fruitful discussion will definitely attract more clients. v. In helping the studel1ts solve their problems, counselling did use the Islamic approach. In directly, it is the dakwah ways and means to persuade the target group towards the good and rightness way of life. vi. Students' counselling, if properly done as proposed by al Qur'an, will promise good and perfect returns. vii. Counsellors who are knowledgeable about dakwah and its related study will be able to apply it in their counselling activities. viii Elements of dakwah is obvious in counselling. The is evident in the services provided, which aim at improving individuals.
