Abstract

The Thesis presents overall view of processes, causes, effects and control strategies in flash flood issue in the Klang River Basin. The selected study areas involved are as follows a. Flat Seri Perlis in Kampung Keramat, Kuala Lumpur in upper catchment area. b. Kampung Haji Abdullah Hukom, Kuala Lumpur in middle catchment area. And  Kampung Padang Jawa, Klang, Selangor Darul Ehsan in lower catchment area of the Klang River Basin. The above three areas had been chosen due to frequent of flash flood occur and represents each area so-called upper, middle and lower catchments. Indirectly, It shows that flash flood occurred overall in the Klang River Basin. Based on analysis study on human effected by flash flood, 100% respondents in flat Seri Perlis and 84% respondents in Kampung Haji Abdullah Hukom suit it as horrible and dangerous. Meanwhile, 100% respondents in Kampung Padang Jawa feels that it is environmental problem whereby needs to be resolved immediately. The Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) has conducted a few steps to control flash flood in the Klang River Basin but a result achieved is not satisfy while magnitude and frequency of flash flood are still increasing. In conclusion, the authors hope that this research can solve a problem in flash floods management in the Klang River Basin and Malaysia as a whole.
